Niklas Sivelöv, Niklas Sivelöv, one of the very best known and esteemed Swedish pianists, studied at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm and made his debut there in 1991 as soloist with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra with Bartok´s Second Piano Concerto. He continued his studies in Helsinki, Bucharest and London. Already from the start he attracted attention for his genuine interpretations and the spread of his repertoire. He won critical and public acclaim for his manner of playing piano as well as for his compositions. He is a pianist who is not afraid of improvising at Mozart´s cadenzas. This
has of course to do with his extraordinary gift as composer.
In 1994 he received the Swedish Golden Apple award and the following year he was chosen as an Artist in Residence with the Swedish State Broadcasting Company. He has a wide-ranging repertoire from Beethoven to Lutoslawski and Ligeti which also includes many contemporary Swedish composers.
He has performed with conductors as Esa-Pekka Salonen, Leif Segerstam, Jukka Pekka Saraste , Kees Bakels, Alan Gilbert, Paavo Berglund,
Kazufumi Yamashita and many more.
He often creates a sensation for his intense and fiery performance.
This happened in New York when he performed with a fantastic piano
trio. New York Times listed that concert as extraordinary and one of
the two concerts of that month which the public was urged to attend.
These lines were written not only because of the interpretations of Beethoven Trio in E-flat op 70 but also for Sivelöv´s own composition with the name; New York Trio.
"an energetic finale catching something of the city's vibrancy in
themes that circled through the ensemble, with transformations accruing as each instrument took them up."
Niklas Sivelöv has been concerting all over the world and has given master classes in Spain, Finland, Portugal, Great Britain and the United States. In 1998 he became assistant Professor of Piano at Copenhagen´s Royal Danish Conservatory.
His 2000 London debut at the Wallace Collection led to return
engagements and in the same year he debuted with the Prague Radio
recording the Concerto by L. Ekström with the Tonhalle Orchestra of
Zurich.
He has received many awards for his Naxos recordings including the
Diapason d'Or (Berwald's Piano Concerto), Cannes nomination for best
20th century recording (Eina Englund?s Piano Concerto No.1) and
Penguin Record Guide?s highest marks (Piano works by Wilhelm
Stenhammar and Wilhelm Peterson-Berger).
His recordings for Caprice with music of A. Skrjabin and the CD
Improvisational 1 inspired by C.M Bellman have both recieved splendid
press. Finally, his CD, the Argentinian Piano Music is a bestseller,
especially in the US.
